Value missing

I have a variable in my session bean say private long inboundType; which is set through a SelectOneMenu like value="#{costAllocationManager.inboundType}". I have two command buttons in my page when i click one button  I can get the value then when i click the second button eventhoug the same value is selected the variable is 0 in my session bean. Anybody know what is the mistake here
