reading core:init debug value as a variabel

I'd like to configure components.xml to set debug=true in dev envmts and debug=false in other envmts.  Currently it's hard-coded to false which is limiting.

What's the best/easiest way to achieve this?  I'd like to have the variable read as an envmt variable (e.g. env.JBOSS_HOME like in an Ant property):

<property name="jboss.home" value="${env.JBOSS_HOME}"/>

or as reading directly from an Ant or Maven property/variable.  I'd like to have it default to false, assuming that the variable will not be set in QA/prod envmts, etc.

So perhaps an envmt variable would be the easiest route but I need that variable to work in Win and Linux envmts.

Any ideas?  thx.

I'm trying to avoid using envmt specific config files like testConfig.xml, devConfig.xml, etc.

This is similar to using settings.xml in Maven for envmt specific setup.  thx.

Or is it possible to read envmt variables via HttpServletRequest or HttpSession?  thx.

String myvar = System.getProperty("myvar");   is this against best practices?  and how would I write this in an EL?  thx.

I am not sure you can set this using envmt.
However this is how we are setting it.

In components.xml

<core:init debug="@debug@" jndi-pattern="@jndiPattern@" />

And then we have components-dev.properties where the debug is set to true, and then we have components-prod.properties where debug is set to false. We also have created a script that copies the correct components.properties file depending on which server we want to deploy too. (Test, staging, prod etc).

In components.properties

jndiPattern myproject/\#{ejbName}/local
debug true
