a) http://industry.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers
I use the driver of ATINAV which is very easy-used and powerful, and full java-based with just jar file, support mssql6.5/7.0 with many features such as datasource, connection pool, ...
b) there is a open source software: www.objectweb.com
