doc request - config files

I'm evaluating 5.1.5 and using one of the distributed cache stanzas.  When starting up, I see messages about some deprecated variables namely rehashwait, rehashrpctimeout and a couple others.  I see these variables in many of your sample files in the distribution.  Can someone please update them?

Also can someone fill out the blank Monitoring section on the wiki?  Anything is better than nothing.  With jconsole, I can view the main mbean but I cannot find the most important thing -> a stringasxml for the cache.  Where is that?

We have a test that detects deprecated messages, so maybe the issue is with the commented configurations in files such as sample.xml? Could you be more precise about the file name you're having issues with?

What do you mean by stringasxml? You mean the configuration of the cache being shown?

Yes that is exactly the file I'm talking about - sample.xml from infinispan-5.1.5.FINAL/etc/config-samples.  I used the distributed cache section.

On the wiki, https://docs.jboss.org/author/display/ISPN51/Getting+Started+Guide#GettingStartedGuide-MonitoringInfinispan is blank.  I have looked at the other page you mentioned.  I'm not using RHQ, in fact I'm not using jboss at all.  I'm using jconsole for now.

What I mean is I want to see the contents of the cache..not the configuration.  Kind of like what is shown on the GUI demo's DataView tab.  Thanks

Well, the link I sent you contains a section of JMX management, which is precisely the information you get via jconsole (or jvisualvm - a much improved jconsole shipped with the jdk FTW). All the JMX information we provide can be found in http://docs.jboss.org/infinispan/5.2/apidocs/jmxComponents.html.

Cache contents cannot be inspected via JMX. This would be inpractical due to potential size of data.

I'm considering "upgrading" from JBC 2.2.2 treecache which has an mbean that provides an operation called "printCacheDetails".  I would expect to see similar functionality in more recent versions of the technology ie infinispan otherwise I would call that a regression on this point.

If you are in the mood for it, things you need to consider: whether you are going to show the cache contents of the entire cluster (impractical really), or only of the local node. And how this representation will look is also interesting, i.e. what if I'm storing a binary 4GB DVD in the cache, how are you gonna represent it?

Btw, rather than tackling the general case, it might be more practical to have your own way of showing the cache contents, because you know exactly what is gonna contain and you can format it as you want. If the cache is local, cache.entrySet() should help. If it's clustered, use map/reduce to get all values from all nodes and show them in one place (if that's what you want...)
