user page personalization

Hi everyone,

We’ve started investigation and working with GateIn 3.4 and we’ve stumbled upon one topic (personalization) for which we’re going to need some guidance.

From what I’ve seen, the portal allows users to personalize their Dashboard part. But if we want users to be able to personalize other portal pages, is there a specific mechanism for this?

Here’s what we are trying to achieve: we would have a portal with its page and navigation structure. Users would have edit rights on a specific page, allowing them to personalize it according to their needs (add/remove portlets, change portlet preferences, modify the portlet arrangement, etc.).

Currently, when we try this out, the changes that are made apply for all the users possessing the same rights and not for that specific user who made the changes.

Is this functionality possible in GateIn? Are we investigating this in a wrongly manner?

Any help or guidance would be very appreciated.

We have "Site", "Group", "User" on the portal menu, Dashboard page is in "User" site, page in this site will belongs to specific user (can't share to others, that's mean each user will have a difference instance of dashboard page). Other pages in portal will be shared to group of users base on their permission. Once a page is edited, it will be visible to others that have access permission

Notice that dashboard page is actually a normal page (you can edit site layout, or page layout as you want) except that this page will not be shared to other user. You can more navigations, pages to this "User" site, and these pages can be personalized

I'm still a bit puzzed around the navigation/page creation for each user.

When I look at the documentation, it says: "Three files configure the user navigation (navigation.xml, pages.xml and portlet-preferences.xml). They are located in the {templateLocation}/{ownerType}/{predefinedOwner} directory with ownerType is user and predefinedOwner is username that want to create the navigation. For example, if administrator want to create navigation for user root, he has to locate the configuration files inportal.war/WEB-INF/conf/portal/user/root".

In our mind we would like to create a default navigation for the users that they can personalize afterwards. Does this mean we need to create these configuration files for each user?  Can't they have one by default upon user creation?

Yes, you can create DEFAULT templates (site, navigation, page) for each users. That guide tell you to create configuration for specific user, if there is no config files for a user, portal will use the configuration files in portal.war/WEB-INF/conf/portal/user/template/user

We have that example in the portal.war
