Can Bean Class be ABSTRACT?

Hi Guys/Gals!
I was trying to work out the CMP example in Ed Roman Book(Product something). There, the Bean class is declared abstract, and actual implementation is left to the container. I want to know if JBoss supports such a thing. If somebody has successfully deployed it, can I get the ejb-jar.xml file; and any other modification s/he may have done to the source code.

It looks like the book used CMP 2.0, which is only supported in JBoss 3.0. To activate the CMP 2.0 engine in JBoss 3.0 you ejb-jar.xml file must have the EJB 2.0 DOCTYPE declared.
