Throwing exceptions in EJB's without logging stacktrace

We have a JEE6 application in which we use @Stateless beans for transaction management.

We throw exceptions from these beans when we want to use the automatic rollback offered by the container.

Up the stack these exeptions are caught and logged according to our production environment's logging restrictions (which prohibit full stack traces).

The problem that we are finding is that the container always logs an exception (with full stack trace) each time an EJB throws an exception.

Are we doing something horribly wrong? Should runtime exceptions be avoided in EJB's? If so how should rollbacks be executed using CMT?

Could you show an example stacktrace? Is it some JBoss interceptor that does the logging before your logging interceptor is run?

If it comes from https://github.com/jbossas/jboss-as/blob/master/ejb3/src/main/java/org/jboss/as/ejb3/component/interceptors/LoggingInterceptor.java perhaps it can be silenced with a log category setting?

Its an org.jboss.ejb3.invocation

I don't fancy my chances of getting devopts to silence error messages.

If it's of any use I've attached a minimal eclipse project that reproduces the problem.

Doh.

Thanks to the code you posted Nicklas i saw my error.

The container only logs the exception if it not annotated with @ApplicationException.

We have a generic application exception that we can annotate. So problem solved. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
