Help on configuration of cross site replication: 5.2 User Guide on cross site replication is not complete and accurate

The current user guide on cross ite replication is not complete and miss a lot of details.

For example, there is no relay2 configuration file exists although it states attached.

It is unclear to me the relationships among infinispan.xml, jgroups.xml and RELAY2 configuration files.  The sample confiuration files commig with the distribution (under demo-gui) are almost the same as the previous version, and unclear to me what is changed.  Indeed, it still use <RELAY> ( I assume it should be RELAY2).

Please provide a detail and complete and up-to-dated configuration sample for cross site replication!!

Also update the demo configurations if needed.

I checked the https://docs.jboss.org/author/display/ISPN/Cross+site+replication page and the attachments were there, it's just that they weren't linked in the page. I now have done so.

Hi Tristan: thanks for the quick response.

There are couple areas unclear to me:

1) the relationship between the <sites> definitions in inifinispan.xml and <sites> of relay2.xml.

Do they have to match on the names?  The samples linked in the docs have the names matched, but the siteId are not.

I am wondering why we have site information in 2 seprate places. This is not good for maintance either.

2) In the jgroups-relay2.xml, what should I specify in the initial_hosts list?

Should I include all nodes from all sites?

For example, site LON {node1, node2}, NYC {node3, node4},  do I have to add all 4 nodes to the initial_hosts?

In addition, do I have to use the same port for jgroups.xml (local cluster) and jgroups-relay2.xml (bridge cluster)?

The sample (jgroups.xml) you give on the wiki site uses jgroups 3.1 schemea.

Just let you known that I tried the configuration after the samples linked in the wiki page, and found that the infinispan.xml is not correct. The <sites> element under <global> is NOT allowed.

Can't say anything about the cross-site stuff, but ISPN 5.2 does use JGroups 3.2. I think JGroups doesn't care too much about the schema, it's there only to help with editing in the IDE, not for validation.

Hi Dan, thanks for the response.

Could you take a look at another issue I posted related to jgroups-tcp.xml 3.2 configuration (fail to create JGroups channel with jgroups-tcp 3.2 configuraion)?

I ran into a problem when I update my jgroups-tcp configure to 3.2.
