The number of CMP fields

Normally, an entity bean has 10-30 CMP fields. If my table has 70 or 80 columns, how worse performance it has compare to the normal one? Do I have to split it to couple small tables? ( It will cause other trade off to do this for sure) What's your suggestions?

70 or 80 columns is not a big deal. You may want to use load groups to limit the number of columns select in any one query. This is covered in chapter 6 of the JBossCMP documentation.
