Weblogic Server 7.0.1 faster then JBOSS 3.0.2

      Hello,

I have deployed my demo-application (see online: www.star-finder.com) from my book "J2EE Patterns" on JBoss 3.02 and Weblogic 7.0.1 with similar settings. It was a BMP Bean with a DAO (SAPDB). WLS was always faster (about 10%-30%) then JBoss. But -> the JBoss 3.0.2 perfomance is still great!
Because my CMP-Entity does not work on JBoss (please see my topic "strategy on-find does not work") I was not able to compare the CMP performance.

But again, JBoss is a great app-server,

      best regards,

      adam

I used JProbe 4.0 (www.sitraka.com) for the performance measurement.

Is a logo like "Powered by JBoss" or "running on JBoss" available (I would like to put it on my website)?

          Hi Adam !

Currently I'm thinking about writing a review of your book at amazon. Could you send me your files of the star-finder application ? I'll try to get it running so you can compare the performance between JBoss and WebLogic (I'm kind of curious ;-)).

          Bye,

          Jochen.

            Hi Jochen,

just drop me an email: abien@java-architect.com. I will send you the BMP-Version of star-finder.com. (In case you are curious, you will like my J2EE HotSpots book :-))

            best regards,

            adam

This is possible as we are still tuing JBoss 3.0 preformance. The preformance is getting steadly better. I goal is to be 'in the ball park'. We are not really concerned with be way faster. We are only interested in scaleability and administration in production, as hardware is cheap.

              I'll look at this soon.

We don't have these logos, because we don't want to see them on porn sites. We try to keep the brand, logo, and trademark close at hand.

                Hi dsundstrom,

I would like to put the logo on my site: www.star-finder.com.
It is a demo-app for my book J2EE Patterns and J2EE HotSpots.
If you like, you can send me the logo to abien@java-architect.com.

                best regards and great job,

                best regards,

                adam

I really can't send you a logo. There is no powered by logo, and I don't own the rights to the logo. You can try to ask Marc for the rights to use the logo, but you are very unlikely to get permission (unless you want to pay money). Marc is very careful with the JBoss logo and brand for good reason. Take Linux for example. Notice that everyone uses this and there is no quality control.

Anyway, I'm not trying to argue, I'm just relaying what Marc and his lawyer told me when I why we don't have one. I think it would be a good idea to have one, but I accecpt Marc's logic and choice. In the big picture I don't think it matters.
