Any way to distinguish if remote EJB server(s) are connecting or not?

With J-boss 7.1.1 it seems that server-to-server EJB remoting always responds with "java.lang.IllegalStateException: No EJB receiver available for handling" when the remote server is connecting and lacks matched resource, and also when the remote server is not connecting. Is there a way to distinguish such circumstances?
