try to use the Squirrel SQL client to view the Hypersonic DB. You can download it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/squirrel-sql/
and use the driver in
JBOSS_DIST\server\default\lib\hsqldb.jar
because the tools that you try to use is not for Hypersonic DB in JBoss, but is another projects evolved form Hypersonic

I don't understand your comment. Is it possible to view the gangster data using a HSQL client? If so, how?

java -classpath ${JBOSS_DIST}/server/default/lib/hsqldb.jar org.hsqldb.util.DatabaseManager ( NOT DatabaseManagerSwing !!!!!)
WINDOWS:
java -classpath %JBOSS_DIST%\server\default\lib\hsqldb.jar org.hsqldb.util.DatabaseManager ( NOT DatabaseManagerSwing !!!!!)
When database manager started and Connect windows opened set:
Type HSQL DatabaseEngine Server
Driver org.hsqldb.jdbc.Driver
User: sa
Password:
( default: empty string)
AND Click "OK"
