java.lang.IllegalStateException: removing bean lock and it h

Hi all,

I have seen this problem posted before but no real solutions.

I get the "IllegalStateException: removing bean lock and it has tx set!" whenever I call findAll() on certain bean types (the ones with more than a few records).

All I'm calling on the beans is the findAll() so that the data can be used in the client - i.e. it's not happening on a remove() call.

The number of records read before the exception occurs is always consistent for a particular data type, e.g. for the AccidentAgencies entity in the stack trace below it happened on the 176'th bean.

I'm using jboss 3.0.4 on oracle 9i and linux.

The beans are based on the examples in the Sun J2EE tutorial using BMP. I have transaction attributes for al the beans methods. I've developed the application using the RI server but now am having this problem transferring onto JBoss.

If there is no solution to the problem at least can someone tell me what bean locks are and how do they work? I'm assuming it's something to do with transaction processing..?

P.S. This sounds exactly like the following bug reported on source forge:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=22866&atid=376685&func=detail&aid=601097

This bug is listed as "closed" and the fix incorporated into 3.0.3, but i can't get it to work in 3.0.3 or 3.0.4.

Perhaps I should post a follow up on sourceforge?

The most common cause of this error is that your
primary key is not implemented correctly
equals(), hashCode() or Serialization.

But, can you try it with 3.0.5RC1 from CVS
There was a problem in the deadlock detection
under stress. (Many transactions deadlocking
with each other).
You could also see it if the CMP engine threw
an Error rather an Exception during an ejbLoad()

If these don't solve your problem, post the code
and deployment descriptors with a bug report.

OK I am an idiot!

I had set in the deployment descriptors to use bean managed transactions but I had written the code for container managed transactions... doh!

Adrian you got me thinking on the right track when you said "many transactions" - but there was only one client connected.
