EAP 6.1.0 Final and Jboss AS 7.2

    mmfmehlape

      Hi.

I am probably asking the most common confusion on a lot of people regarding EAP 6.1.0 final.

Is EAP a server runtime just like any other Jboss previous versions or what? I mean, is it a heavyweight Jboss runtime environment or what.

Lastly, are there any differences between EAP 6.1.0 final and Jboss AS 7.2 (Except the fact that one is a more hardened version of the other). What is exaclty "hardened" referring to?

I tried to look for a Jboss AS 7.2 server installation file and could not find it. It seems like the only way is to download EAP 6.1.0 Alpha in order to get Jboss AS 7.2. Is this what everyone is experiencing out there?

Most of your question is better answered by RedHat staff but the 7.2 release is not available as binary download. You have to build it yourself from: https://github.com/wildfly/wildfly/tree/7.2.0.Final

There is no community binary for AS7 as EAP6.1.0.Alpha will be (mostly) the same, it is build from the AS7.2.0 tag but with special renaming.

A short explanation can be found here.

Also there are long threads (EAP or JBossAS forum) why there is no AS7.2.x.

@ Wolf-Dieter Fink, the link to the explanation resolved most of my confusion and I really appreciate. Although there is no reference to the 6.1.0 Final but the Beta and the Apha EAP 6.1.0.

Based on the comment from Anders Welen, does it mean that one cannot run the EAP 6.1.0 Final for free on production unless they build the wildfly version of Jboss 7.2 and use that one instead? In a nutshell, wildfly is the only open source version of Jboss 7.2 moving forward?

"6.1 GA" means the final 6.1.0 version.

The only version you can run for free in production is EAP6.1.0.Alpha.

But you can build any tagged version from the github repository. The WildFly repository contains the AS7.x tags.

The EAP6.1 Beta and Final bits are only allowed to use in production if you have a valid subscription.

You are correct, the WildFly nightly builds, or even the upcomming release which will be available as download, can be used as the community versions before.
