I understand that this is not necessarily a good framework, but the projects at work do it this way and I can only cange their minds one thing at a time. Right now I am working on JBoss, so if i can get our project up and running on it then I can move on to the framework and various other interesting things that are coded in it.

I was trying to change the ID on the jsp but the update in my bean does not set the id field. So I am just completely and totally stupid.
you could even delete this thread.
