This is not official, I don't speak for JBoss:
I don't assume there's going to be one offered for download. Just like AS 7.2 was not offered for download (only EAP 6.1 was).

The current community development version is WildFly 8. AS7 is not longer continued as community version.
If you need to continue here you need the longer lifecycle as an Enterprise version (EAP6).
The source-code will be available from the restricted download page
You might have a look to the Red Hat product update and support policy for more information.

That amounts to saying AS 7.3 does not exist.
It's bad enough that RedHat is doing this all this EAP 6 vs. AS 7 confusion and information hiding.
Claiming that EAP 6.1.1 is "built from AS 7.3" is just bogus when no-one outside of RedHat can access an AS 7.3 tag which presumably does exist somewhere in a private repository.

Source code for EAP 6.2 beta is available as for all other versions on redhat's ftp.

Hi Tom,
EAP code repository was forked/rebased from AS7 after 7.2.0 tag.
And as such has its own lifecycle and has diverted considerably from AS7/WildFly (upstream) repository.
Changes that get to EAP repository are backported from upstream repository and we don't allow any change to get in if it is not in upstream repository first.
So really simplified current 6.2 is 6.1(which was based on 7.2.0 with some more fixes) with some features(RBAC, patching, audit logging, ...) and bug fixes backported from upstream.
Given all that we cannot call it 7.2 anymore se we had to name it something, logically it got 7.3 version but that is internal only version.
Code for all EAP releases is available on ftp and you can always build it yourself and use without restrictions (for details see few other threads on forums).
In short there is no such thing as 7.3 as it is internal version.
In any case you get all the stuff that is there already in WildFly 8 releases, to be fair even earlier that you would get them in EAP.

Thanks for the explanation Tomaz.
I hope you and your colleagues realize that this is quite unsatisfactory from on "JBoss AS Open Source" point of view, being stuck with a "dead end branch" while the next release branch is still some time away...
(Meaning not only the availability of a source code for download, but also the license to use it freely - as in freedom, not as in beer, you know the story...)
Until there are EAPs based on Wildlfy/8.x, maybe there is some time to think of an improvement to that process...

Hi,
there have been many discussions on subject of community vs EAP in last months. No need to go trough them again.
Policy with EAP was always the same, the only difference we did was that we started providing binaries for EAP releases also on community web site and free to use for development.
Noting beyond that changed, maybe before it was not so clear/publicized that there is this another version/release called EAP going on, so no one really mentioned/noticed that.
In any case, we hope to address as much of this now that we moved to WildFly which has much more rapid release cycle and there should be much much quicker turnaround of releases.
To be honest I personally think that current state/stability of WildFly is much better than of any previous AS7.x releases. There are few rough corners here and there but noting to problematic.
Give WildFly it a try, if you find any problems let us know, so we can address them asap.

This points back to Mr Wellmann's comment on the truthfulness of saying EAP 6.2 is "based on" AS 7.3. If AS 7.3 doesn't exist then you can't say EAP 6.2 is based on it. Better to say nothing at all.

I'm not sure what good that does me. I'm not looking to analyze the source code. I'm looking to run JBoss. My organization does not have a license to JBoss EAP. I have one customer with a license to JBoss EAP who insists on running that and other customers who will not pay for JBoss EAP. What can I use to develop on to be able to release on JBoss EAP 6.2/6.3 and Wildfly? I've looked and there's no page on the JBoss site called "How to work with JBoss AS, EAP and WildFly". I can't make heads or tails of the various licenses, EULAs, releases and distributions of JBoss and WildFly. The stated goal of WildFly was to fix the branding confusion related to JBoss. That didn't work. The only effective goal is to ensure that I can't go to my customer and say, "we want you to run our software in WildFly," without them laughing at that unprofessional name, effectively making us pass on the cost of a license for JBoss EAP to them. We just haven't gotten there yet. Of course, when we say they need to pay for JBoss, all they're going to do is ask why since everyone knows JBoss is open source. That's another thing not answered on the JBoss site: What exactly am I paying for? The privilege of downloading your build?

It is a common practice for the product to output some version build string, e.g. git commit hash. In this case the AS 7.3.x.y is our internal version.
What can I use to develop on to be able to release on JBoss EAP 6.2/6.3 and Wildfly?
