Avoiding .index files in modules directory

After my application deployment, I see the size of the jboss directory size increased nearly by 20mb due to the .index files created under the modules :main directory.

Could anybody explain what is the use for the this? Is there any way to start the server with out creating this file.

I need this because, my deployment is done on a very restricted physical memory usage platform.

This are files with META informations about the modules. In later versions they are not longer created.

But if you have problems with 20MB disc space you might run into other problems as JBoss might create other files, i.e. log or tmp files for deployments, which might use more disc space

Thanks for the reply... Could you suggest me a suitable version that I can use to avoid this space accupation. I need to deploy EJB2.1.

That index files should not take more than less then 1KB per module.

unless you have enormous amount of modules this should not be the 200mb size increase issue you are seeing.

that .index files are there to speed up classloading....
