peterj Nov 22, 2009 1:28 PM (in response to javatwo)What JDK are you using? What have you done to monitor the memory usage (jconsole, visualvm, command line options)? (Though my bet is still with what Jaikiran suspects.)

javatwo Nov 23, 2009 11:06 PM (in response to javatwo)First I started it as window service using the service.bat script. But it had exception.
Then I run service.bat uninstall and stop the service completely. I verified it with the window service manager. then reboot machine.
Then I started the Jboss using command line
run.bat, and experimented the different memory settings.
I used the window performance(press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL) to monitor memory usage. It only used about 400M before the exception was thrown. the physical memory is 2G.
JBoss 5.1.0.GA,
JDK 1.6.
Window 2003 SP2
Thanks for help. -

There's a known bug with AS-5.1.0 and JBoss Native on Windows https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-7290. Read through that JIRA and the referenced forum thread for possible workaround. -

You cannot use OS-specific tools to monitor Java heap usage, especially since Task Manager (by default) does not tell you everything (unless to add extra columns to the Processes tab).
1) Have you deployed any apps, or are you starting with a clean JBoss AS install?
2) At what point are you getting the out-of-memory error?
When you run from the command line, could you post the Command Prompt windows contents starting from the command you entered through the log message that says "started in xxx seconds".
