h:commandbutton refresh whole page. you need use f:ajax or a4j:commandbutton. and check the RF example.

damonchong Feb 25, 2014 3:17 AM (in response to liuliu)Thanks, the problem with a4j:commandButton is that it does not support required="true" attribute. I guess I will just have to do workarounds if I want to use popup panels.

liuliu Feb 25, 2014 3:24 AM (in response to damonchong)the required is on the input component. if they are in the same form and there is no execute on a4j:commandbutton or aj4;region, it should work.

damonchong Feb 25, 2014 9:55 AM (in response to liuliu)Sorry, I guess I am not clear. When I changed my h:commandButton to a4j:commandButton, the validation error message did not appear.
I figured out what's the problem thanks to your hints. I did not set the render="@form" for the a4j:commandButton so the validation error message did not display properly. Haha, thanks alot!
