rich:dropDownMenu bugged?

I use dropDownMenu in more applications under Glassfish and Java6. If I use mode="server" the page is refreshed each time I choose an item (it's annoying to see). If I use mode="ajax" I've to select two times an item to fire it and something doesn't works like download file.

So, why this behaviour? If I use a template I'm expecting that some parts of it shouldn't change, e.g. the logo, the footer and  the menus are static, so why the page has to be refreshed each time I choose a menu item?

What version of RichFaces and Mojarra are you using?

Richfaces 4.3.4. Final and Mojarra 2.1.6

No errors.  But this seems to be the normal behaviour of dropDownMenu. If not specified, the page is refreshed each time I select an item. If I set mode="ajax" I've to select an item two times to fire it. Both situation are not useful in my opinion. My question is why this behaviour?
