Autoincrement-mysql4.0-jboss3.2.2

I am attempting to get the autoincrement working with mySQL 4.0 and JBoss 3.2.2. It seems that the autoincrement works (the data is correctly added to the database) but I get this error: "Primary key for created instance is null"

I would appreciate any help on this. Does anybody have a working autoincrement example with xdoclet tags they can post?
