Issue with JBoss EAP - Cant find Home Directory

Hi All

I am trying to configure a maven / jenkins deployment to JBOSS - however I am running in to some rather basic problems. I am unable to set the JBOSS_HOME environment variable as I have no idea where that should point too.

In var/opt/jboss I have the following files and foldersl

1. Modules
2. jboss-modules.jar
3. welcome-content
4. version.txt
5. LISCENCE.txt
6. JBossEULA.txt
7. docs
8. appclient
9. domain
10. bundles
11. bin
12. standalone

From all of the online guides I have read this doesn't seem to be the location I want? For example - most of the guides say -

export JBOSS_HOME=/usr/jboss/jboss-4.2.2.GA export PATH=$PATH:$JBOSS_HOME/bin

or

export JBOSS_HOME="/home/<username>/<install_directory_path>"

Neither of these are valid locations for me. This means, when I try and use the Jboss Plugin for Jenkins and point the JBOSS_HOME to the directory I originally thought /var/opt/jboss i get the following error

It's not look like correct JBoss home directory.

That is an actual quote by the way! Not a grammatical error from me.

Does anyone know how I might determine the correct home directory? Thanks

You have the correct directory selected var/opt/jboss. I am not sure where you are reading to tell you otherwise.

Does this mean then that in Jenkins I should point the JBOSS plugin for JBOSS_HOME to this directory.

The reason i ask is because when i do it says the following

I would say yes; point the JBOSS plugin to this directory.

I am not 100% familiar with Jenkins but here is what I think is happening. It looks like Jenkins is looking for the bin folder and a folder called server in the root you define. However, I am not aware of a folder named server. When one of these folders does not exist or is not a directory a form validation error is returned with the message "It's not look like correct JBoss home directory."

That is what I gathered from this anyway.

Hi Matthew - thanks so much for the help with this issue, i would be lost without it.

I was hoping I could just pick your brains for one final time. Once i configure the JBoss jenkins config - then come down to configuring on a per job level I am asked to pick from the following

1. START_AND_WAIT
2. START
3. SHUTDOWN
4. CHECK_DEPLOY

I am going to be brave and guess that START is the option which I need however once selected it asks me for a set of properties. I am unable to find documentation on what these properties should consist of. Is this something you might have had experience with before?

I agree with you on the START. What set of properties is it asking for? Is it being more specific? If not, I would say you are going to want to point to your JBOSS_HOME/standalone/configuration/standalone.xml. That is what I do when I start my server and I would assume Jenkins would need this information as well.
