Out of Memory.

I am getting a java Out of Memory error. Is there a way to manage/control/configuring the number of messages on a JMS destination. A way to set the max message size, or the max number of messages, or a way to purge older messages on a destination (queue/topic). Also, I am starting ActiveMQ from FUSE is there a way to set the JVM max memory size for activeMQ on start-up? Any documentation on:  in activemq-broker.xml?
