Need help configuring archetypes...I'm about to cry (its been 2 days!)

I installed JBoss Developer Studio, configured my Settings.xml file and I thought I was all set to take a look at the TicketMaster Project. I tried setting up a new HTML5 project, and also a new Maven Project through the studio but I keep getting errors.

For the HTML5 project, please look at the screenshot for the error. It keeps telling me I don't have the required archetypes in the configured repositories. I've configured all that I know I could (or I think I know I could).

For the Maven Project, I go through the set of screens to install various archetypes, but it just won't work. This is the error:

"Could not resolve archetype org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:RELEASE from any of the configured repositories.

Could not resolve artifact org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:pom:RELEASE

Failed to resolve version for org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:pom:RELEASE: Could not find metadata org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart/maven-metadata.xml in local (C:\Users\USERID\.m2\repository)

Hey,

Sorry for the problems - I think you would be best of removing your file:// based repositories and simply use http://maven.repository.redhat.com/techpreview/all directly instead.

The most probable cause is a connectivity issue. Are you behind a proxy/firewall? If yes, have you configured the maven settings accordingly? http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-proxies.html

Mark,

I set the Maven repositories to look for stuff from the files and also through the websites I could find. Not sure why either isn't working. Although, one of the next replies says it might be because I'm behind a firewall. That is indeed the case, however, I tried it without being behind a firewall and still got the same issue. I shall take a look at the tools you've mentioned. Thanks for the reply, I'll post again to let you know how that went!

Thanks for the response, Fred. I'm indeed behind a firewall. I was VPN'd in to the company I work for, and had not set the proxy settings. However, when I disconnected and was still connected to the internet directly, it wouldn't still work. This laptop that I'm using is a company based laptop and while installing the software, it gave me a message saying certain network connectivity settings have been blocked by the Windows Firewall and can be enabled by my network admin (doesn't matter if I work behind the company firewall or not). I haven't been able to connect with or without the VPN connected. Do you think this might be the issue?

I had to post both replies in one because its giving me a frequency issue of replies.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Turns out it was the firewall indeed. And I couldn't do anything about it. So I started working on my personal laptop this weekend and it works perfectly fine with no changes to the basic setup whatsoever. I'll learn the rest as I go along!

I have another tiny question: Is this the indeed the forum where I can post any development issues/things I'm trying to accomplish but can't figure it out stuff or is this just a forum for the software setup issues and such only?

Sounds great you got it working.

This group is mainly about help surrounding work with and within the tool JBoss Developer Studio.

So mainly it is about using the tool for development tasks.

But if you have problems running examples, projects created by developer studio we'll help but if for more generic or specific questions about specific frameworks we will probably point you to a more specific forum .

Everything is all set up for me to work now. A clean install of Fedora, a working JBoss Studio with bitbucket and git all set up for code tracking. It's time to get to work now!

And that sounds awesome. I'm pretty sure I'll be posting quite a bit on here...hah!
