mfinsterwalder Jun 4, 2014 5:29 AM (in response to ctomc)The EAP 6.3 Beta Release Notes don't say anything about Java 8. Will EAP 6.3 officially support Java 8?

I am also very interested in knowing the answer to this. Java 8 is the most exciting release Java developers had in a very long time. There is a lot of interest in it in my organization.

5. Re: Java SE 8 support in EAP 6.3
jdoyle Jun 9, 2014 9:54 AM (in response to adila01)We planned to support EAP 6.3 on Java 8, but the Java 6 EE Compatibility Test Suite does not execute cleanly on Java 8. We're looking at our options to plug the gap in our testing that this leaves, but until we do we won't be able to support EAP 6.3 on Java 8. We have users that have been running the Alpha and Beta versions of 6.3 on Java 8 in their QE environments successfully, and we're not aware of problems in that environment. The best case scenario is that we simply add support for Java 8 without code changes sometime after GA when we can restore the expected level of testing. Failing that we can target fixes in the regular patch stream for 6.3, or if necessary we will have to target a later version (i.e., 6.4).

blackbeltdev Oct 6, 2014 5:32 PM (in response to jdoyle)Hi John. Has there been any change in status? It's been quite some time without an update. We are EAP customer too BTW.
Thanks

jdoyle Oct 8, 2014 12:14 PM (in response to blackbeltdev)Hi Kirk,
We're still testing and we're pretty close. We've resolved a great number of issue, some with the TCK, some with the testing environment, and some with EAP. We will not be able to support the 6.3 GA bits on Java8, we will have to deliver a number of fixes if we successfully complete the testing before 6.4 becomes available.

9. Re: Java SE 8 support in EAP 6.3
blackbeltdev Nov 4, 2014 12:37 PM (in response to jdoyle)Thanks for the update John. What is the road map for 6.4 release? We are more concerned with Java 8 support than the exact version of JBoss we use. Are we looking at maybe Q1 next year or beyond that? Java 7 is being EOL'd pretty soon. Yes I know you will still support it but that does make me a little nervous. Seems like Oracle is getting more aggressive on moving Java forward compared to previous releases.

There is plan to support it, but final decision is comes down to product management guys that base their decision on all testsuite we run passing.
but as you know there is difference between supported as in "it works" and supported as in "you can rise support ticket if doesn't".
For first I am sure, for second I certainly hope so.

14. Re: Java SE 8 support in EAP 6.3
jdoyle Feb 13, 2015 10:51 AM (in response to adila01)Update 3 for EAP 6.3 is available on the Red Hat Support now, and that update adds support for Oracle's Java 8 VM. The EAP 6.4 release will also provide support when it becomes available.
