Starting JBoss as non-superuser (root) on Linux

Is it possible to start JBoss as a non-root user? I have tried this and it fails due to permission issues on critical directories. Do I have have to create a special group permission for JBoss to do something like this? Or do I have to use some other work-arounds to launch as something other than superuser? Will applications deploy properly without the JBoss service running as su?

I am facing the same issue with some permission rights on linux with non root user. Referred link doesnot exist now . Please let me know how can i solve the problem. Thanks in advance

It should not cause issues installing the JBoss server in a directory that is not owned by root.

I am not using root at all for my JBoss environment. And I haven't recognized any problem so far. Which issues do you get?

If you unzip the jbossAS with the user you use later to start there should no issues
