Connecting VisualVM or JConsole to Wildfly 10

I've done a bit of digging about this and it seems like it should be relatively straightforward to connect VisualVM to a remote Wildfly instance, but I just can't seem to get it to work, so I must be missing something obvious.

I have an admin user configured in Wildfly, and the HTML admin portal is running fine on port 9990.  I attempt to connect using the connection string:

service:jmx:http-remoting-jmx://lisprod03:9990

VisualVM immediately throws back an error saying cannot connect to service:jmx:http-remoting-jmx://lisprod03:9990

Where can I start looking for clues as to what may be going on.  There is nothing in Wildfly's server log files.

Do you have your classpath correctly set ?

You should take a look at WildFly jconsole script in $WILDFLY_HOME/bin

You need to make sure you have the jboss-client.jar on your class path. You can add it by using --cp:a $JBOSS_HOME/bin/client/jboss-client.jar argument when launching VisualVM.

On Linux it would look something like the following.

jvisualvm --cp:a $JBOSS_HOME/bin/client/jboss-client.jar

Just a side note too the http-remoting-jmx has been deprecated in favor of remote+http.
