Wildfly and geoserver-2.9.1.war

Hello,

We're a company that has been using geoserver for quite a while and recently have been upgrading almost all of our infrastructure to a more organised form :-)

We currently deploy geoserver-2.9.1.war to a farm of Wildfly-8.2.0-Final in domain mode and have had no problems until very recently where we discovered that a /rest/about/version should return info about the geoserver but all it does is return 'About:' with the following page source:

ALL other rest calls return the correct information and all other functionality also works correct!

This is a standard Wildfly deployment in standalone mode with a standard geoserver-2.9.1.war and it doesn't make a difference whether we use Wildfly8/9/10, use it on Windows (2012) or on Linux (Centos-6/7).

Anyone seen anyone like this?

Any other info I can supply/research to help find the root cause?

I've got the same issue with geoserver-2.9.2-war. But it seems to work under Apache Tomcat/8.5.6.
So this looks like an issue with WildFly

I couldn't find the source of geoserver online and didn't want to download the .zip to just check what the servlet mappings for that web app looks like and what the actual content of that about page is. Can you paste those contents here?

The source may be down loaded via Download - GeoServer

It looks like geoserver uses the Spring Framework as well as Restlet Framework (Restlet | Home )
I've no experience with Restlet but it looks like the pages are created dynamically via Freemarker templates like

so apparently the <#list values as s> is skipped

After adding
<logger category="org.geoserver">
                <level name="FINE"/>
</logger>

The log reports" Failed to lookup template version.ftl: java.io.FileNotFoundException: Template version.ftl not found."
So this seems to be related to using Freemarker on WildFly (Freemarker does not find template on classpath )
