jboss stand alone client behind firewall

Will http tunneling ever be directly supported by jboss? In our architecture, jboss (stand alone) client connects directly to a session bean, currently through port 1099 (RMI port also involved). Shouldn't RMI switch to http after timing out? Consider the scenario that the client is behind a firewall and only has http access through a public port. This is a major show stopper in getting the jboss server live. If tunneling works, we can finally get rid of weblogic. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
