If we are going to use Eclipse as primary development ide for JBoss/Seam applications, then what is the point for Micheal Yuan's talk in Java One called "Rapid Seam Application Development with the NetBeans IDE" ?

How much of Exadel would be mentioned in that talk? I am kind of confused here.

            • 18. Re: Exadel, JBoss and Seam

Of course, we will support both Eclipse and NetBeans for Seam development. Just like we support JBoss AS, Glassfish, Tomcat, WebSphere, WebLogic as runtimes. Seam is agnostic to server and tools. The developer can choose anything they want.

However, if you want officially supported tools, then Red Hat Developer Studio (Eclipse + Hibernate tools + Exadel) is the way to go.

What can Netbeans give me that Eclipse cannot in the context of a Seam app?

                I have never tried Netbeans.

NetBeans versus Eclipse is really a matter of personal preference. I like the way NetBeans handles the directory structure and it comes with a useful set of plugins by default. NetBeans also has decent support for JSF and Facelets.

But in terms of Seam development, I think we have some cool features in NetBeans to allow Seam app generation more integrated with the "standard" workflow in the IDE. I will blog about it early next week. :)

insanely productive development environment that is comparable to Microsoft's .Net.

I don't know how well you know MS VS .NET, but from what I've seen from it, I can tell you that if RHDS resembles VS, I'm surely not going to use it.
Eclipse and NetBeans are insanely more productive than VS, IMHO. :-)

My expectations are high concerning RHDS, I've been waiting a long time to get an IDE with good JSF and Seam support.

Personally, I think it would be nive to have a feature that allows to build the projects without IDE (yes, indeed, for building on a continuous integration server). Currently I haven't seen a solution for that, so I'm always doing double work: keeping the Ant build files and the Eclipse project files in sync.
(If someone knows of an existing solution I'd appreciate to be pointed at it ;-))

Is there any chance that we're going to see an update to the IDE availability coinciding with JavaOne? Or am I only dreaming fond dreams?

                            Hi guys,

I'm from Brazil and I'm really excited with these technologies integration thru Seam. I think you guys are doing a terrific job.

I'm trying hard to understand how everything fits together. As a university professor, I'm introducing the use of JBoss products in my classes.

Right now I'm in a configuration battle with Seam, JBoss 4.0.5, Richfaces, Ajx4jsf and Myfaces / Facelets. All the examples I studied put all of the above jars inside the ear. That is good for examples, but not a good practice. Even considering the examples, I deploy the same set of the above jars for each example I try. It seems to be much more reasonable to install these jars in the container so that any app can use them. I installed my JBoss with class loader isolation configuration. I simply can't make things work, I receive all sorts of error msgs when I try to implement this idea. I tried many different confs in conf/jboss-service.xml, the deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/conf/web.xml and the deploy/jbossweb-tomcat55.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml and all I got is a change in the kind of errors reported. I'm really stuck with that. Of course, as deploying everything as modules in the ear, with the proper confs in application.xml, is the only approach that works, that's what I'm doing. But I really want to know how to configure these jars in JBoss so I don't need to insert them in each application I deploy. I googled a lot and I have a feeling that this problem is related with embedded tomcat class loader configuration 'cause, as far as I was able understand, the root of the problem is the binding of JSF libs/tlds (declared in jsf-libs dir of tc5) with the libs/tlds of Seam, Ajx4jf & Richfaces, since they are in different class loader memory areas when these jars are not inside the ear.

Can anyone help me to solve this puzzle?

                            Thanks in advance.

is there any news about this project ?

We are working hard on it.

We are still in the process of preparing the code for opensourcing - but stay tuned. Hopefully I'll soon be able to give you a download link.
