    JBoss 6.0.0 M4 goes boom on EJB deployment

    Greg Zoller Newbie

      Hello,

      I have a simpe "hello world" ejb ear the deployed just fine under M3 but goes boom under M4.  Here is the last chunk of the exception:

      Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Null type

      My annotation on the ejb stateless bean (only ejb in the package) is simply @Stateless.

      My application.xml is this:

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
      <application xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
                   xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
                   xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/application_5.xsd"
                   version="5">

          <description>Render screen frames for web pages</description>
          <display-name>FrameMaker</display-name>

          <module>
              <java>FrameMakerClient.jar</java>
          </module>
          <module>

          </module>
          <module>

                  <context-root>/FrameMaker</context-root>
              </web>
          </module>
      </application>

      I know this is hard to debug without all the code but I'm seeking any guesses what might cause this problem--especially stuff that's changed since M3.

      Thanks,

      Greg

          After looking at the exception again, the whole thing will be useful.  It seems its choking something in my code... an anonymous class something in JBoss is poking at using reflection...not sure why.  Looks from the exception this may be some Alpha code?  This exception is thrown on load--nothing has called the ejb yet.  It worked just great in M3.

            It looks like something in the jboss-scanning/jboss-reflect which is running into errors. From what I know there have been changes in that area for M4. Let me check if someone from the jboss-scanning team knows better.

              Kabir Khan Master

              I think this problem comes from the annotation scanner scanning too aggressively for annotations. A workaround can be found here: http://community.jboss.org/message/556223#556223

              To help us isolate the real cause of the problem, would it be possible for you to post the source of your JavaMap class? Or a scaled down version that contains the things that cause the problem?

              ------------------

              Ales asked "Kabir, didin't we see this "Null type" before, in some AOP code?" This is probably unrelated, but this contains what we did for that scenario https://jira.jboss.org/browse/JBAOP-795
