Having trouble starting a fresh install of AS 7 - Brontes on Windows 7

    Daniel Martin Newbie

      Hi there.

I downloaded jboss-as-7.1.1.Final.zip and extracted it's contents to C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final.  No further configuration was done, nor was any application deployed to it.

From the command prompt, I atempt to start the server like so: C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final\bin>standalone.bat

It fails to start and produces the following output.

      C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final\bin>standalone.bat

      Calling "C:\Program Files (x86)\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final\bin\standalone.conf.bat"

          Hello,

if you have troubles with a fresh install it can be usually something wrong with your system environment. In your case my guess is that the issue will disappear if you choose a location for JAVA_HOME and JBOSS_HOME without empty spaces in it ("C:\Program Files" for example is discouraged as choice).

          Hope it helps

          Francesco

            Hi,

what Francesco is saying is good practice in any case, but for your problem, this is not an issue, AS7 is confirmed to work in folders that contain spaces.

I would say that you(the users that starts the server) don't have enough permisions to create folder under Program Files.

Check you permisions and try again.

Thanks for the reply Francesco.  I tried moving the JBOSS_HOME to the root of C: but that didn't work.

Tomaz, I have administrative privelages on the machine.  However, the strange thing is now I'm getting a different error.

can you post boot.log to see more info..

There wasn't anything written to it today.  But attached is the one from last week, 8/31.

Your earlier log suggests you are using Java 6:

                      JAVA: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre_1.6.0.23_32_bit\bin\java

                      but the boot.log shows java.runtime.version = 1.7.0_06-b24.

Anyway, the boot.log seems outdated (as you say) and it contains the old exception. Can  you post the output of

                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre_1.6.0.23_32_bit\bin\java -version

command? Also, I would recommend you upgrade to the latest bug fix version of Java 6. I think it was 1.6.0_32 when I checked.

Latest Java 6 is 1.6.0_35 as of last week.

As a test, I downloaded Thunder (jboss-as-7.1.0.Final) and placed it in the same parent directory as Brontes (jboss-as-7.1.1.Final) and it started up without any errors.

Attached is the boot.log and server.log

                              what happens if your run:

                              attrib -S -H /S /D C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final

                              icacls "C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final" /grant dmartin:(R,W,F,M) /T

                              and then try again.

                              --

                              tomaz

I get an access denied on the first command.

                                Access denied - C:\Program Files (x86)\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final

In anycase, I don't know if you saw my other post but AS7 - Thunder works without any issues.  So, I may just use that for now.  There's no requirement for me to use the latest and greatest of AS7.

                                Thanks for all your help...everyone!

See, that is also why jboss cannot run

you do not have permisions in that folder...

maybe someone with different premisions (administrator) copied 7.1.1 and you cannot run it.

                                  what if you just run

                                  icacls "C:\Program Files\jboss-as-7.1.1.Final" /grant dmartin:(R,W,F,M) /T

aka giving permisions on that folder to yourself.

otherwise you can do that also trough gui...

                                  --

Same thing; I get "access denied".  This is bizzar because I created the JBoss AS directories.
