which EAP version do you use? The free 6.1.Alpha or a EAP version with a subscription?
You might have a look to this High Availability Guide
To start a cluster use a *ha* standalone configuration or a domain profile. It depends on the application and server environment whether you have improvements and how the behaviour is.
You might need to do a bit extra work in the application.
What type of application do you plan to cluster?
Is this effective for performance improvement?
What other options are you considering? Don't forget that if you replicate session state to achieve high availability, there is some overhead with the session replication.
I think it is the alpha version.

My application is a ordinary web app with an ear and a war in it.
If you have a web application you need to have a web server in front, i.e. often Apache is used.
You can see a simple example for mod_cluster in the documentation AS7 Cluster Howto.
You need to use the Apache to have loadbalancing and failover.
The performance improvement is that you can handle more parallel request. Don't expect that a single request duration is improved.
Yes, I have read that section. But I did not see any description about Apache using for the clustering.
Apache HTTPd is really just a load-balancer. The servers do not necessarily have to cluster.
The enterprise solution is to buy a hardware loadbalancer.
Thanks. Can you give some more detailed information about how to make it work? Because I have no such experience at all.
Please forgive me.. I am so stupid that can not find the instruction on how to install the httpd in the link. Can you show it to me where it is?
And is there any documentation for windows?

You can download entire httpd + mod_cluster modules in a bundle:
Documentation for configuring is here:
And just run httpd as you normally would.
There is a headline
before the sectioni testing
Sorry, I really cannot find the
section, can you paste the link here. Thanks..
Follow the link AS7 Cluster Howto scroll down a bit, behind "Domain configuration", "Security configuration", "Deployment" there are a few images and after that you will find the "Cluster Configuration"
