If you want to do request/reply with Mina then just set the option sync=true and it will automatic return back the reply when the route completes.
Otherwise you can get the IOSession on the Message and use it to return back a reply.

Wouldn't this mean i need to get a message as a server before I can send it thru that socket connection? In my original example, what if i wanted someone to connect to me and I never expect a client to send any messages to me, but I could send messages to the client?

That is not supported in camel-mina. But there are some tickets to improve this.
But Mina is just java code so you can just code this yourself.
