We haven't QA'ed on Vista, nor on jdk1.6. You use both :-)

Try downgrading to jdk1.5 and see if that works.

Beware of the Vista security enhancements that attempt to protect what it considers to be critical files (usually things in Program Files). Try turning off User Access Control, that seems to 'fix' these bugs. (Of course, upgrading to either Linux or Windows XP would fix them for sure.)

Did anyone find an answer to this issue? I'm having it right now with JBoss 4.2.3 and Vista.

tomespo214, a little more information on your exact situation would help. Do you have UAC set? What account are you running JBossAS under? Are you an administrator? How are you starting JBoss AS?

By the way, on my Server 2003 box I have JBoss AS set up to run under a 'JBoss' account as a service. Works great, except in one instance: I have a PowerShell script that gets run automatically once a day to stop JBoss AS (before the backup runs) and then start it up again. This script runs fine, except when it is run automatically by the scheduler - then I get similar a Access is Denied error. Nothing I have tried works. Moral of the story: knowing all of the details about your situation are critical to determine if the problem is even solvable.

I've poured through these forums and searched google and the consensus seams to be "upgrade to 5.0". But them 5.0 has issues with reloading static files (see https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-6590).

Is it just me, or have our tools become less and less reliable over the past 5 years?

If you start JBoss AS from the command prompt, do you run into the same issue?

Also, post the exact error stack trace you are seeing.

Also, is JBoss AS located in either Program Files or Documents and Settings? If it is on your desktop, then it is in Documents and Settings. Spaces in path names cause certain Java libraries fits. I have mine at d:\opt\jboss\jboss-x.x.x.GA. I don't even install my JDK in Program Files.

Everything is under c:\devtools. (JDK, JBoss). I get the same thing from the command line. The error happens randomly which makes it that much more difficult to debug. I read something about people putting jboss on a different logical disk (d:, e:) and having it work. I would expect a consistent failure if that was the case though.

JBoss lives in c:\devtools.

I read somewhere that people are having success when jboss is installed on a seperate logical drive. I'm not sure I want to go that far for JBoss yet.

Which version of Vista? Do you have the Security tab when you view the properties of a folder? If you do, try turning on auditing for the C:\devtools\jboss-4.2.3.GA\server\default directory, and its subdirectories. Then look at the Windows security log and see if it gives any clues (there should be an "audit failure" messages, or something like that).

Also, what are the security settings for the C:\devtools\jboss-4.2.3.GA\server\default directory? You can find out by entering:

I checked the "Effective Permissions" for this folder for my user and it shows that I have full control. I'll check into the auditing that you mentioned. In the mean time, here are the results from the icacls command.

I have been facing the same problem, and I wrote just to share where was the problem in my case.

I had just migrated to Windows 7 Pro, I'm working with a non-administrator user, and I have UAC set to ask for everything, and I had Copernic Desktop Search. I previously worked with XP and I hadn't had any problems.

With Windows 7 I was experiencing the same random problems that you have reported, for example:

I experienced others similars problems with the 'ant' tool while deleting resources:

My problems dissapear after disabling the indexing service of Copernic Desktop Search. I tried to configure it not to index any folder related with Jboss, but the problem still persisted. It only disappeared when I stopped Copernic Desktop Search. It's a pitty, because it's the only desktop search tool I have found that also searches in outlook mail attached files. In Windows XP I hadn't this problem. I'll have to deinstall it...
