1. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
slaboure Oct 14, 2002 5:58 AM (in response to spicagao)You need to assign different port and/or ip addresses to the services of each node.
Take a look at build/build.xml and search for "clustering". You will find an ant target that creates a two-nodes jboss configuration on the same jboss instance. You can mimic this for three nodes.

spicagao Oct 14, 2002 10:36 PM (in response to spicagao)Thanks a lot
But I can not find there is something talking about 2 nodes configuration in build.xml, can you kindly send that fragment to the amligao@21cn.com , I will appreciate your help greatly.
Another question, can I just put -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=192.168.1.10 into run.bat file to setup the ip address for a single jboss instance? -
3. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
slaboure Oct 16, 2002 11:43 AM (in response to spicagao)no, the -D will not work
As for the frament, you need to use Branch_3_2 or HEAD to see it:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/jboss/build/jboss/build.xml?rev=1.181&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup
And search for a target named "cluster-test-setup"

4. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
spicagao Oct 17, 2002 6:03 AM (in response to spicagao)Thanks for the great instruction.
But it sounds I should compile the JBoss source code to achieve the two nodes or three nodes cluster purpose, am I right?
Is there any solution to setup cluster nodes on the same machine without compling the source code but using complied JBoss app server directly.

6. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
dkmankotia Oct 18, 2002 4:44 AM (in response to spicagao)I am also trying to set up clustering on the same machine using two jboss instances. I have set up different port number for services for two jboss instances, all the services are running, but while deploying the iiop-service.xml file. It gives exeption.
Listener: Couldn't initialize. Illegal address configuration? ]
4.0.3/server/all1/deploy/iiop-service.xml
Could you please tell me where for iiop service where do i have to set the port number. I have check in iiop-service mbean. It doesn't support any attribute for setting port.
Thanks in Advance -
7. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
slaboure Oct 21, 2002 8:48 AM (in response to spicagao)no, you don't need to compile, it is just that the trick I give you is shown in the source code, that's all. Get the source, check how it is done and do the same yourself with your non-source-code-compiled-jboss-version.

8. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
slaboure Oct 21, 2002 8:49 AM (in response to spicagao)Take a recent CVS snapshot of any JBoss version (3, 3.2, or head) and you will have the port attribute. Otherwise, change the OAPort (or something like this) property in conf/jacorb.properties

9. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
spicagao Oct 22, 2002 10:35 PM (in response to spicagao)Hi all
Finally, I make all three nodes running on the same machine. Instead of assiging different ip address to different instances, i open different ports for each instances , then things run well.
But I wonder how to assign ip address to instance, have anyone tried it?

10. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
slaboure Oct 24, 2002 11:01 AM (in response to spicagao)yes, most of the time there is a "BindingAddress" attribute. Once again: take a look at the build environment: it is exactly doing that: port changes and/or ip address change

11. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
khamsouk Nov 5, 2002 4:47 AM (in response to spicagao)Hi,
In order to get two instances on the same machine, are there any ports which I shouldn't change (i.e. that should stay the same)? Does anyone have a list? Also, which server controls the round-robin scheduling and do user's get "stuck" to a specific JBoss instance?
Thanks,
Khamsouk -
12. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
khamsouk Nov 5, 2002 6:28 AM (in response to spicagao)Hi,
Would you be able to list the steps that you did for this? I am trying the same thing. Also did you base your deployment on the "all" configuration or the "default" configuration?
Thanks,

13. Re: How to cluster three jboss instances on the same machine
spicagao Nov 8, 2002 1:43 AM (in response to spicagao)Hi
I make my clustering working based on all directory...as to me case, i just change couple of ports for jrmp, jndi, and ha... that is all....
for example, first instance use 1100 for ha, and 4444 for jrmp, i assin 11100, 14444 for second, and 21100, 24444 for the third... -

yjliu Nov 22, 2002 2:47 AM (in response to spicagao)Sorry, I am so slow and still stuck here. Actually I could find the information to change the port from the build.xml.
If possible, would you point out some files that have to be changed?
many thanks
