requirements for JBossCache ?

hi folks,

what is the prerequisite for JBossCache? do we need any app server to imlpement JBossCache?
actually i wanted to have a shared memory between 2 or more jvms but i cant go for RMI, socket programming or other alternatives for various reasons.

hence i wanted to know where exactly shared cache will reside if we use JBossCache ?

You don't need an app server. All you need are the jars that are packaged with the JBoss Cache distro.

Data stored in teh cache is stored in memory, and this in-memory state is replicated across all JVMs that start instances of the cache.

Download the distro and check out some of the examples and tutorials that come with it.

can this cache be distributed across machines on network ?
or is this ditributed across jvms on same (local) machine?

The JVMs can be distributed across a LAN or WAN, based on your configuration
