Java EE is an specification and an API. There are several vendors that actually implement the API. JBoss application server is just one. The book you are describing explains how to use Sun's implementation. JBoss' equivalent tool might be the JBoss plugin for Eclipse IDE. You could of course do all the configuring by editing files yourself; this is what I do. That is just my Slackware side comming out. But these tools are not part of the Java EE spec.
