JBoss IDE and JSP: an error has occurred. See error log for

    Norman Fung Newbie

Hi, after I installed JBoss IDE I couldn't open JSP files.... Here's some info:

      1. Eclipse 3.1.1
      2. JBoss-IDE / Eclipse 3.1 / JRE 1.5.1.4.1.e31-jre15 (NOTE: This is the only option I can choose because JRE 1.5 installed on this machine)
      3. JRE 1.5.0_05

      Error observed:
      1. When trying to open existing JSP in project:
"an error has occurred. See error log for more detail"

      Upon inspection of error log:

      java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/eclipse/jdt/internal/ui/text/java/ResultCollector

What I tried is I disabled the feature (JBoss IDE) then I was able to open JSP without error....

Reference JIRA entries and Google results...:
      1. http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBIDE-188
      2. http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBIDE-190

      4. http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBIDE-209

Anyway, after reading all this ... I'm rather clueless at this point as to how to move forward. Thanks in advance.

Guys, I want to use Eclipse, and I want to use JBoss IDE, what should I do??

          Thanks in advance!

Does this error occur with the latest RC1 release ?

            • 3. Re: JBoss IDE and JSP: an error has occurred. See error log
              Norman Fung Newbie

I'm surprised you ask because all 3.x release seems to have this same problem. I downloaded many versions and tested:

              eclipse-SDK-3.2M2-win32.zip
              eclipse-SDK-3.1RC4-win32.zip
              eclipse-SDK-3.1M7-win32.zip
              eclipse-SDK-3.1.1-win32.zip
              eclipse-SDK-3.0-win32.zip

              none worked.

eh ? I'm asking about the JBossIDE version, not the eclipse version.

                  Sorry, my misunderstanding.

                  What worked:
                  Eclipse 2.1 + JBoss-IDE 1.3.0

                  What did NOT work:
                  Eclipse 3.x + (JBoss-IDE 1.4.1.x or JBoss-IDE-1.5.1.x)

Anyone shared this experience before? Thanks.

well that class *IS* in eclipse 3.1 so maybe you are not using the eclipse version you think you are using ?

                        scratch that last comment ;)

that class is *not* in 3.1 and it is is not used in the latest release of jbosside 1.5.

Are you sure you have deleted all traces of an old jbosside ?

Unfortunately, yes, this is my EXACT experience and continues to be with JBossIDE 1.5RC1 under Eclipse 3.1.x. It appears they still don't have the JSP thing firgured out at all yet.

What we need is a JSP Compile option in the project properties so we can configure whatever JSP Compliation options we need, including were the final resulting Servlet class files end up and whether or not we want to retain the intermediate .java files for debugging purposes and any packaging options that may be appropriate in including JSP's in our .war files. It would add a warm-fuzzy to have a JSP creation wizard as an option in the Web Components.

Do you also get the class not found exception ?

If you could please provide the steps you do to reproduce this error AND attach the contents of the textbox found at Help/About Eclipse SDK/Configuration Details/

That will help us track it down.

The ideas/bug-reports you have should be posted to the JIRA.

Ooops! My bad, Max, sorry. I have JBossIDE installed on the three different machines. Upgraded two of them to 1.5RC1 but this one was still 1.5M2... Updated it, deleted all references to the old plugins, and I can edit JSP files now just fine.

Still can't compile them via a project packaging setup, but I can edit.

I will open a JIRA entry then. But first, did any of you guys come across this problem? I want to know it's not just me making a stupid mistake.

JIRA was oppened long time ago ( 26/Jul/05) for M1 and was closed soon - by replacing JBoss JSP editor to WTP,
BUT JSP support has not been implemented for a while
