Automatic build is under Project menu - it is enabled by default but I have seen many users disabling it since they think it is a problem.
I cannot say why quick fix is not working for you - have you tried setting the runtime manually ?
Right click the project and under targeted runtime set it ?
Then the classpath should contain the jars.

and if I set it to jBoss 4.2 two errors go away (I was setting it to 4.2 when quickfixing it, which as you already know did not do anything at all) -
but still 2 errors left + 20 warnings. I am really upset because I've tried it on 3 different machines and on all these 3 this is happening and now you're telling me it works on your side?
And - for the sake of argument I just told a friend to install it and try to build an example project and he came up with the identical problem.
Please investigate on this one and fix it ...

I tried this 3 times now with various examples and making sure I did not have the right server and it works fine for me - I have *zero* issues besides it is annoying to do the quickfix a couple of times to cover all issues.
I suggest you try out GA when it comes out.
