Seems like the "JDBC-ODBC" bridge driver seem to failing on some database metadata calls, if you want you can turn on the ODBC debugging to see function this driver is failing on. However, there is nothing we would be able to fix, as this driver is in-built driver comes with the JDK.
Do you have access to Oracle JDBC driver? If not you can register at Oracle site
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html
and download a Oracle driver. Using this driver, the connection is directly made to Oracle instance, where you do not need to create a DSN.
You are going in the right direction, and you are doing great. Please know that with any tool there is some learning curve.
