Upload and Download to/from JBoss AS through JMX

Hi people,

Please, I would like some ideas to make possible the uploading and downloading of archives to/from JBoss AS through JMX.

I have an web application that needs to access a JBoss AS remotely or from the same machine (the web container into JBoss AS or a separated container in the same machine, like a Tomcat running independently).

So, I must create an web interface to:
- list all the archives into JBoss AS (.ear, .jar, .sar, .rar, .war, .esb, etc) into server/default/deploy directory;
- make possible to download each of them, by clicking on its URL link;
- upload archives to server/default/deploy directory.

I found something related in http://www.servletsuite.com/jmx/jconsole.htm, but, from my requeriments, it only allows the upload of archives into server/default/deploy directory and the visualization of archives into this directory.

Please, does anybody know where could I find a source code to do this and if it is possible to download archives from server/default/deploy directory using JMX? If not, which other way could be used?

That's another subsystem that the new open-source project RHQ is trying to address (http://rhq-project.org)

Our Content subsystem will allow us to manage pushing content to managed servers. With a JBossAS plugin, you'll be able to do what you want.

Thanks for your answer.

You said that the archives I copy into server/default/deploy are not deployed on restart.

As I will make this copy (hot-deploy) when the JBoss AS is running, I think this is not a problem. Isn't it? Or you would like to say that, after a reboot of JBoss AS, these archives won't be deployed?

If JBossON could provide a way to Servlets can put and get .esb archives into/from server/default/deploy, for me that's ok. I just wanna do it programatically through a Servlet or any other way to access JBoss AS remotely.

I'll take a look in it to find a sample.

To be honest, I am not sure. I'll have to try it out myself.

I presume if you use the Manager-thingie to deploy your archive, it is being linked into the search dir dynamically into memory and thus not available after restart.

If you copy the archive into the dir it will stil be there when you restart.

Hi people,

I've been reading the JBossConfigEditor's source code and I am in doubt about something.

As you know I've been thought about a way:
- to get (download) .esb archives from JBossESB server/default/deploy directory to store it in my web application;
- to put (upload) .esb archives from my web application to copy them into JBossESB server/default/deploy directory.

So, I would like to know if JBossConfigEditor's Servlets could be usable for I develop these functionalities.

I already know that UploadServlet allows a config file to be uploaded and DownloadServlet allows the config to be downloaded, but how could I do that with .esb archives (like .jar or .war archives) into server/default/deploy directory?

And what about JSR-88, is it a way to do deployment? Does it run into JBoss 4.2.1?

Ok, let's forget the download. In the example I gave (http://www.servletsuite.com/jmx/jconsole.htm), listing of deployed files and uploading of them is possible, and it seems to be an older version of JBoss.

In this way, please, does anybody know where could I find a source code that does it: to list archives into server/default/deploy and another one to upload them in this directory, like in http://www.servletsuite.com/jmx/jconsole.htm?
