Problem creating two intances on the same machine

Hi,
I'm trying to create a cluster test between two intances on the same machine(windows 2003 server)- each instance is working on different IP address - two network adpters.
I starting the ran as:
First instance as: "C:\Program Files\jboss-4.0.4.GA\bin\run.bat" -b 192.168.3.179 -c default

Second instance as: "C:\Program Files\jboss-4.0.4.GA\bin\run.bat" -b 192.168.3.180 -c portal

and I get on both of them All Members : 1
I dont uderstand they can't see each other..

I already look on the wiki suggestions and I couldn't solve the problem

Are you actually using the "default" server? If so, your cluster instances need to be copies of the "all" server.

thanks for answering and sorry for the late desponse
but when I installed Jboss I chose the "all" option which give me only "default" instance (probably with the all configuration)
any idea?
I read the document and I don't know what to do,

I have the same problem with other instances (not on the same machine) what can blobk them from seeing each other.
as far as I understand I don't need to do any configuration they will work by default they are working in the default partition

I'm not familiar with the installer so I don't know what servers it makes available or what its advantages are. If you download the binary distribution and unzip/tar it, you should end up with three server instances named "minimal", "default" and "all". Create new server directories (e.g., node1, node2) in the jboss/server directory and then copy the contents of the all server to each directory. Then start each server using commands similar to the following.

run.bat -c node1 -b 192.168.3.179

run.bat -c node2 -b 192.168.3.180

I tried and unfortuantly it doesn't work, I also tried to copy from other server his instance which is working with clustering and it's not working too.

don't have any clue..

Have you remember to change lookback to true ?

On Windows machines, because of the media sense feature being broken with multicast (even after disabling media sense) set the loopback attribute to true in the cluster-service.xml
and tc5-cluster-service.xml

The best way is to start from the Wiki jgroups layer troubleshooting to make sure mcast is working properly first.

I tried both suggestions, and unfortuanly stillhave the problem
I change to "true" the UDP loopback option on
cluster-service.xml and on
deploy\tc5-cluster.sar\META-INF\jboss-service.xml

I also tried the second advice and in the jgroup drow test I open two drawing instances and they are able see each other.

You can try to use only network adapter.
And to avoid conflit with ports you can use Binding Manager (get a look at http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ConfiguringMultipleJBossInstancesOnOneMachine)

and so avoid use of -b

Another tips from JGroup in this case is to disable "media Sensing" feature of tcpip
