Gandalf...It's $10!! Just ten lousy dollars ($16 for me but same difference ;) )

        Spend the $10 ... it's worth it.

If you are technically smart enough to be using JBoss, then clearly you know how to write Java programs. I'll bet you spent around $50 to $100 per book for all your Java books didn't you?

You're whinning about $10? Jeez, get over it! You get a top notch, clusterable, fail-safe, FREE J2EE appserver (and the source code!) and you are b*tching about $10 for the admin docs...?

        Man, get a life....

          Hi Geeks

If everyone how just complains about the docu had written one FUCKING line the current JBoss 3.0 Quick Start Guide would be 10,000 pages strong.

So I dare you all to either contribute, pay for docu or SHUT UP.
You can start contributing by getting the JBoss 3.0 docu from CVS, switch on "Track Changes" on the Word document and send me your corrections.

            Andreas,

Maybe you wrote a quite good QuickStart Guide, but you're not very friendly with people who are using your team's program...
Posts like the one you wrote do not make good advertising, do I think.

Oh I suppose your absolutely don't care about my thoughts, so do not even waste energy writing another post to tell me to go to hell or something like that.

OK, I will reply. If I had spent a ton of my own time writing this software and a ton of my own time writing the guide and some yahoo comes along and complains about spending a measly $10, then I would have EXACTLY the same reaction as Andreas.

I think the Documentation for JBoss is relatively pretty good. There are many app server vendors who'e documentation is far worse. Also I have read some the purchaseable docs and I think those are also well worth the cost.

The Quick Start guide is informative and is available for 3.0. But I will say this. There are many typos in the document. JBoss Team, please do some more proof reading as less experienced developers may not be able to get beyond these minor flaws.

                • 20. Re: Doc

No no no, that is not how it works at all.

If you find a typo, send a message to whoever wrote or maintains the document (andreas in the latter case) with the fix.

Telling us to go do this and that will only get you flamed. You do the work.

JBoss is quite large. Understanding all possible configurations is really hard. If you haven't good doc to lead you into that buzz, you won't get out of it.

So I'll tell you one thing : if you want a good app server, you've got to pay. Nothing is free. JBoss is said to be, but when you need something more advanced than deploy a simple bean, you need help. And for this, you've got to spend some bucks.

What I find funny is the consulting proposal of JBoss. You want help ? Ok, just pay a consultant $10000 and you'll get everything you need.

<What I find funny is the consulting proposal of JBoss.>

Whats so funny? Not only is it a valid business model, but one that makes total sense. As opposed to the other app vendors with their big license fees which you pay upfront regardless of whether you need help or not, with JBoss you have choice. There are plenty of developers out there deploying non trivial complex apps without help. So if you don't have the chops to make it work, then you pay. Whats wrong with that? And for the same amount of $$ that you pay in huge license fees, you can get the services of a core developer. Such a deal.

                        juha...

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm pretty new to this forum and JBoss in general. And I would love to send andreas a message with the fixes, but I dont know of an email address to reach him at.

It's not according to me, it's actually you who has said before :

"And seemingly I'm not the only one in that case. I think people prefer asking on forums than paying for good documentation."

And I believe you are refering to money when you say "paying", duh ?
