Is this happening in Designer or with a pushdown query?

jdoyle Aug 11, 2010 7:14 AM (in response to chesse)HI Carmon,
When you say the SQL is internally changed, are you saying that Designer rewrites the SQL to the invalid state when you save the transformation?

chesse Aug 11, 2010 8:59 AM (in response to jdoyle)Hello John,
Yes, exactly thats the case, the Designer rewrites the SQL to the invalid state when I click on the "Save/Validate" icon.
Thanks,
Carmon

chesse Aug 11, 2010 10:53 AM (in response to chesse)I searched the "Issues" forum concerning Teiid Designer and found something similiar to the problem I have. The only difference in my case is that I don't use sub-queries though.
It is found here: https://jira.jboss.org/browse/TEIIDDES-490

jdoyle Aug 11, 2010 4:24 PM (in response to chesse)Carmon,
I'm working on something that's creating transformations now, and I think I've seen something similar happening. Try Right Clicking on your virtual model in the Model Explorer, select Modeling->Validate Transformations. That has resolved the issue when I've encountered it. I have yet to figure out why it might be happening.

chesse Aug 12, 2010 3:46 AM (in response to jdoyle)Hello John,
thanks for helping me with this problem. I've tried what you have suggested but I still get an error message
"Transformation Validation Problems"
"Problems were encountered validating the transformations for the following tables. Please open transformation editor to inspect and make the appropriate fixes"
And then it refers to my View/Model.xmi...
As soon as I enter or import my SQL statement in the transformation editor and try to save or try to Model > Right-Click > Modeling > Validate Transformations the SQL is already changed into the invalid state and get the following error message in the Transformation Editor log.
"The query is parsable but not resolvable.
Resolver Error: Symbol alias.view.table.column is specified with an unknown group context"Thanks,
Carmon

jdoyle Aug 12, 2010 7:46 AM (in response to chesse)Hi Carmon,
I think I understand the problem now. In your original SQL you had this as FROM:
Product, Product AS incomingProduct
This is confusing the validator, but it's confusing me too. Why are you accessing Product directly and aliasing it?

9. Re: Problem with aliases in TransformationEditor
chesse Aug 12, 2010 9:19 AM (in response to jdoyle)Hello John,
the SQL I posted is just an example of the problem I have with a much bigger SQL. In the original (the bigger one) I need to alias the same table for different inner joins to get the wanted results.
Greetings,
Carmon

10. Re: Problem with aliases in TransformationEditor
chesse Aug 12, 2010 9:35 AM (in response to chesse)This also happens in a single table with the following SQL:
SELECT
alias.column
FROM
view.model.table AS aliasis changed to:
SELECT
alias.view.model.table.column
FROM
view.model.table AS aliasSorry I didn't explain my problem cleary enough before.

rareddy Aug 12, 2010 12:39 PM (in response to chesse)Carmon,
Yes, it is the case of https://jira.jboss.org/browse/TEIIDDES-490
This is regression looks in 7.x line (I tried on 7.0 and 7.1-m1) it occurs there too. We are looking into fixing this in the next CR2 release. Also you can add yourself as watcher on the above JIRA, so that you will be notified when this issue gets resolved.
Mean while if you want give 6.2 Designer a try. Just note that to make the VDBs from 6.2 work in 7.0 there is some manual updating of VDB as lots of things have changed with 7.x line in Teiid in terms of deployment.

13. Re: Problem with aliases in TransformationEditor
chesse Sep 1, 2010 10:05 AM (in response to rareddy)Hello Ramesh,
as it seems the problem only got fixed in the SELECT clause but not in the WHERE clause.
I installed 7.1 Designer today and it still changes "alias.column" (which is defined in the FROM clause) into "alias.view.model.table.column"
Thanks,
Carmon

rareddy Sep 1, 2010 1:48 PM (in response to chesse)Bummer, can open a JIRA Teiid Designer? Also, I have seen this behavior only with self joined queries before, is that case you are seeing?
Thanks.
Ramesh..
