Formatted text in inputTextArea?

Not exactly a richfaces specific question, but I would think there may be a solution to my problem that someone could recommend here.

I'm wanting the ability to conditionally format a string of text entered into an inputTextArea control.

It's obvious that in it's raw state, html imbedded in the string is getting escaped, so ths, e.g.,

<warning>This is a warning message</warning>

is generated into this for the output:

<warning>This is a warning message</warning>

When ideally I'd like to provide a styile for the warning tag and have it applied to the text.
I don't see an option to not escape html in the control. There must be a way to do this? Or an enhanced control to allow for this?

h:outputText, there is the option with escape="true"

but if you really need inputText why not use rich:editor?

Well, I need a fixed read only area on the form where messages can be dynamically updated via the richfaces:ajx:push process. I'm implementing a log output viewer for providing realtime processing status messages. Would seem like a pretty basic need, but essentially what I need is a intputText control that provides an area to enter read-only information into (in my case lines of text) and support html/xml tags for formatting purposes.

rich:editor would seem a bit heavy for my needs but if I have to ...

so i you need it read only just use an outputtext with escape false, and you can use plain html
