I know the samples/wiki that comes with seam uses option #2 and it's scary.

I didn't cache the generated feeds or anything and wouldn't use shale remoting today.The simplest thing I can think of would be to use ROME with a page action.
Also seen some examples of using pure facelets for generating RSS feeds, ROME however allows you to generate 10 different feed formats from the same model.
