I think you need a 'reply-to' address to send and receive notifications. In HornetQ the concept of message senders and receivers are totally separated.
that sort of defeats the purpose of having an asynchronous messaging system, the point here is that the publisher and consumer don't need to know anything about each other. Maybe you are using the wrong technology for your application.

I would suggest reading a good JMS tutorial, The Sun one is pretty good.
There is a 'request-reply' example that comes with HornetQ download kit. Find it under examples/jms dir. You can get some idea what I mean.
