HTTP parameter processing failed

Hi again,

I run a web app on JBoss 7 and I got a strange problem. The request sent ist wrong due to incorrect parameters. I'm not quite sure how this happens, but this is for sure a client side problem. The request sent looks something like this:

http://mysite.com/myApp?paramA=A&paramB=B&=&=&paramC=C

But I only realized that there are incorrect parameters,because the different JBoss 7 versions act differently. Since it is no problem sending this request to a JBoss 7.0.2.Final, JBoss 7.1.1.Final fails at the first call of HttpRequest.getParameter(String) with the following Exception:

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Parameters processing failed.

Some info about the software I used:

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421

JBoss 7.1.1.Final

Server and client running on the same machine (localhost)

Sending a comparable request to a JBoss 7.0.2.Final with the same browser didn't force a HTTP 500 response.

I know, that the request is wrong, but I'm wondering why JBoss 7.0.2 accepts this request and JBoss 7.1.1 doesn't.

Is there any way to let JBoss 7.1.1 accept this request without finding out why IE9 doesn't send keys for some parameters and which those are?

So far, I'm using 7.0.2 for development purposes, because I don't have a work-around for that.

This issue was caused by a change in the parameters class. We made a change there and patched the jboss-web jar to solve the issue.

Removed one line in the Parameters.java. Line number 333 parseFailed=true. Patch the jboss web.jar. Good luck!

This isn't patched by JBoss and I think it won't be patched also. The sent request is wrong, so strictly spoken the program is acting correct. I couldn't find out why my request was wrong. But manually patching the Parameters.java in jboss-web.jar should do the job.

I'm not quite sure if this is what you wanted to know...

I'm facing this issue with "JBoss-EAP-6.0.0"(Evaluation copy) for IE browser only. It is working fine for Firefox. This is a JBoss new release test for my company product.I couldn't see any JBoss bug for this issue.
Yes, As you suggested I can fix this issue by modifying "Parameters.java" but I can't ask same to customers. I can ask them for JBoss patch for it. I want Bug id/patch no for customer reference only.
Shall I create a bug?

This isn't a bug in JBoss AS (or for that matter JBoss Web) code, so I won't be surprised if that JIRA gets rejected. The real fix should be in the application. If you are looking for an interim workaround, the real question you need to ask is whether there's a parameter or configuration which allows JBoss Web to be lenient with requests like these. I am having the same problem... I have a few questions about this patching thing...

1. Where can I find jboss-web.jar? I tried searching for it but I can't find it. I'm using Jboss 7.1.1-Final
2. Where can I find Parameters.java?
