Problems connecting from teiiddesigner 10 to teiid 9

Hi,

Should it be possible to connect from teiiddesigner 10 to teiid 9?

I've added the server like I've added it in the past but now as a wildfly 9 server reference. It is configured as a remote server managed by management operations. I've also entered the login credentials with which I can connect to the regular wildfly console on port 9990.

When I try to start the server, eclipse just freezes for my new server.

I still have an existing wildfly 8.11.3 environment and when I try to connect to this one it succeeds but in the server's teiid instance configuration it says "Not Connected" while the Default Server panel shows the started server and the correct teiid version.

In the Error log I see these error's but I'm not sure if they are related to this problem.

1) Unable to retrieve a list of remote deployment scanners (no stacktrace)

2) Unable to locate secure storage module (org.eclipse.equinox.security.windowspasswordprovider).

I think you'll have to use teiid 8.12 with designer 10.0. As I understand it, there's mostly a one-to-one relationship between designer and teiid.

Let me correct that to say that there's some backwards compatibility but no expectation of forward compatibility from designer to teiid. 10.0 may work with older than 8.12 but it is not likely to (and apparently doesn't) work with 9.0+.

Just a humble thought from my user perspective.

The teiid designer download page states clearly that version 10 is compatible with 8.12. But when looking at the teiid download page 8.12 is not in the stable or older downloads but completely at the bottom as older downloads.

Normally when I look for software (or upgrades), I always download the latest versions to make sure most bugfixes are applied. Maybe the teiid download page could also mention something about latest compatible with teiiddesigner?

Anyway, 9.0 seems to work when I deploy the vdb via file upload using the wildfly console so I'll start using this one already in our test environment.

We can certainly add a note. Generally there has been a compatible Designer within 3-5 months of major Teiid revision, but unfortunately that is not the case this time. Hopefully that will be rectified soon.
